Head of Technical Department
Technical Department, Warsaw - on-site role leading a team of contract furniture engineers and designers.

Your responsibilities
- 1. Leading the team of engineers and furniture designers
- planning, delegating and reviewing the team's work;
- assigning projects according to skills and current workload;
- setting priorities, deadlines and areas of responsibility;
- monitoring task delivery and enforcing agreed standards;
- developing the team's skills and independence;
- ensuring cover between team members and reducing reliance on single individuals;
- setting and consistently achieving the department's KPIs.
- 2. Managing engineering and technical work
- maintaining the overall schedule of technical project preparation;
- controlling the timeliness of engineering and technical work;
- monitoring man-hours used against work progress;
- analysing man-hour budget overruns and implementing corrective actions;
- technical feasibility assessment and risk identification;
- supporting the estimating of unusual and complex structures;
- cooperating with other departments during estimating, preparation and delivery;
- ensuring complete data is passed on time to the next stages.
- 3. Overseeing documentation and technical solutions
- supervising drawings, workshop documentation, material lists and BOMs;
- approving workshop documentation and documentation released to production;
- ensuring documentation is correct, complete and up to date;
- supervising numbering, versioning and document flow;
- optimising designs for cost, quality, labour intensity and material use;
- implementing and developing engineering and production standards;
- analysing errors, rework and complaints and preventing recurrence.
- 4. Optimising and developing the department
- analysing how engineers and designers currently work;
- shortening drawing, engineering and documentation time;
- standardising repetitive tasks, documents and design solutions;
- developing libraries of typical structures, fittings, materials and details;
- implementing parametric design and automated documentation generation;
- eliminating unnecessary work, rework and duplicated effort;
- creating measurable work-time standards for typical tasks;
- comparing actual labour intensity with estimating assumptions;
- continuously improving the department's efficiency, quality and predictability.
- 5. Developing tools, automation and AI solutions
- identifying areas that can be automated;
- implementing new tools supporting design, engineering and documentation management;
- expanding the use of AI tools in the team's daily work;
- automating repetitive operations, summaries and documentation checks;
- assessing new CAD/CAM, ERP and project management solutions;
- preparing standards for safe and effective use of AI tools;
- training the team on new tools and checking real adoption;
- measuring results: shorter lead times, fewer errors and better timeliness.
Our requirements
- experience in furniture technology and engineering plus practical knowledge of production processes;
- experience managing a team of engineers, designers or production preparation;
- experience with contract furniture and made-to-order production;
- experience with hotel, build-to-rent, student housing or office projects;
- experience preparing workshop documentation, material lists and BOMs;
- experience implementing design libraries, parametric design or automated documentation;
- experience implementing production standards and improving processes;
- knowledge of furniture materials, fittings and furniture production and installation;
- knowledge of CAD/CAM software;
- ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and man-hour budgets;
- ability to optimise and standardise the work of engineers and designers;
- openness to automation, AI tools and new technical solutions;
- ability to delegate, enforce tasks and make decisions;
- readiness to work regularly on the production floor.
Nice to have
- knowledge of ERP systems and project management tools;
- communicative English.
